Exotic jewelry is best defined as those designs that are “outside” of normal Western styles. Cultural designs from south Asia, African, and even Native American styles are all generally heaped into this broad category. The materials used in these pieces also play an important role in their being defined as “exotic”.

Exotic jewelry often incorporates stones and metals that are not commonly used in European and American designs. Turquoise, for example, is very common in Native American jewelry, and is what gives it a very unique appeal. Animal horn and bone are also common to the more “exotic” styles.

It can be more difficult to find exotic jewelry, than other more traditional styles. Exotic designs are most easily found over the Internet, as it allows one to find jewelers from all around the globe. However, many cities throughout the country do have jewelers that specialize in non-traditional designs.
